About

Online Psychotherapy Clinic

Online Psychotherapy Clinic provides accessible psychotherapy  by a qualified psychotherapist trained in the most effective psychological approaches for common difficulties such as; depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, longer term difficulties from childhood and unhelpful ways of coping.

Online Psychotherapy Clinic has been developed by Richard Mathews based on his recognition that accessing good quality and effective psychological help can be difficult for many people due to their circumstances preventing them from being able to work with a therapist face to face. Richard is a highly experienced therapist who has worked as a Psychotherapist for over twenty five years in the UK National Health Service as a senior psychotherapist in clinical psychology services. He is trained in a range of psychological therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Schema Therapy. Richard is an a registered and senior accredited psychotherapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and is an Advanced Certified Schema Therapist, Trainer and Clinical Supervisor with the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST) and abides by the BACP ethical framework.

Online psychotherapy has a number of benefits for those who are seeking help for their difficulties. Psychotherapy can be hard to access for a number of reasons. Firstly it means that you don't have to spend the time and money to travel to see the therapist at their office, this can be important if getting the time and cost of attending is challenging for you or just off-putting. Sometimes  we just can't attend due to issues such as mobility, anxiety, work and family commitments. And sometimes it is just not available due to where we live or the type of therapy we need is just not available to us.

Richard is able to offer sessions by video conferencing, phone or email or a combination.

About
01.

Individual therapy is an opportunity for you to consider your difficulties and find ways to manage or resolve them.

There are many types of psychotherapies however not all have been tested to see if they are effective in addressing your difficulties. Knowing that a therapist practices evidence based psychotherapies and is trained in them is an assurance that you will receive the most effective type of help. If Richard is not able to help you he will discuss this with you and help you to consider what may be the best options for you.

At the beginning of sessions you will be asked to take part in an assessment to help understand what your difficulties are and to think about what your goals are.  This usually takes 1 -2 sessions. At the end of these first sessions is a time to pause and think whether you wish to go ahead with more sessions. The best type of therapy will be discussed with you for your difficulties and if you decide you want to continue, more appointments can be planned.

Lengths of therapy can differ depending on what your difficulties are. If you want to have some idea of the number of sessions you will need undertake to help with your difficulties then  email Online Psychotherapy Clinic to discuss this.

Therapy is always based on your informed consent and that psychotherapy is the right option for you. This will always be discussed with you at the outset and regularly checked out with you.

Clinical Supervision is mandatory in most countries and is often the basis, along with continuing professional development, by which psychotherapists  maintain their registration or accreditation with their governing bodies.

Clinical Supervision helps therapists to reflect and consider how they are engaging with and helping their clients. It also ensures the safety and wellbeing of the person receiving help by ensuring the therapist is practicing in a safe way that is within their abilities.

Richard is an accredited supervisor with the ISST and is able to provide expert supervision for schema therapists both qualified and in training.  He is highly experienced in providing CBT supervision and for therapists who practice therapeutic integration.

If you wish to discuss supervision email Online Psychotherapy Clinic to discuss your supervision needs.
