Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or CBT for short, is a well researched psychological treatment for a range of psychological difficulties including; depression, anxiety based problems such as phobias, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Obsessional Compulsive Disorder and self esteem.

 

CBT focuses upon how thoughts (cognition), feelings, behaviour and physical responses all influence each other to create psychological difficulties. CBT focuses upon modifying our thoughts and behaviour to help us to find better ways of dealing with our difficulties.

 

Richard is a trained CBT Therapist having undertaken a Post Graduate Diploma/M.Sc programme awarded by the University of Liverpool

EMDR is a psychotherapy that was developed to treat the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), it is evidence based, that is it is shown to have been effective based on rigorous research. 

EMDR works by helping to 'process' difficult memories and feelings by helping the brain to work them through so that they do not cause ongoing suffering. 

EMDR can be used to treat a number of presenting psychological difficulties including phobias, generalised anxiety disorders, low self esteem, OCD and other emotional difficulties.

Richard has undertaken parts 1, 2 and 3 of EMDR Europe Accredited EMDR Training

Schema Therapy is a psychotherapy developed to treat long standing and complex difficulties characterised by repeated unhelpful patterns of behaviour that are harmful to our and others wellbeing. It has been tested by research to be effective in treating presentations such as Borderline Personality Disorder. 

Schema Therapy can be helpful in treating a range of psychological difficulties including; childhood trauma, long term depression, impulsivity, issues of over-control, avoidance, anger, eating disorder, narcissism, paranoia and perfectionism  

Richard is an Advanced Accredited Schema Therapist, Trainer and Supervisor with the International Society of Schema Therapist 

04.

DBT is a skills based approach to help with problems such as intense emotions (emotional dysregulation),

difficulties in managing intense distress, problems with interpersonal relationships and problematic behaviours.

 

DBT is an approach which has a strong research background and is effective with a range of problematic behaviours and intense emotions.

Richard has undertaken full DBT training and has run an NHS DBT service
